# The ecommerce web design agency for brands selling direct

We design and build websites that carry the whole job: brand, checkout, search visibility and tracking, live from day one. It's how we took m|devices from B2B-only to direct-to-consumer, and Revolve Partners from no website at all to an immediate presence in the executive search market.

**Proof**

- [m|devices](https://gudu.com.au/mdevices/) — B2B medical device manufacturer, rebuilt for direct-to-consumer (2024–25)
- [Revolve Partners](https://gudu.com.au/revolve-partners/) — custom WordPress build, from zero digital footprint to launch (2025)
- [Southern Phone](https://gudu.com.au/southernphone/) — digital partner since 2021

## What you get

- **Discovery before design.** We map who buys from you, how they decide, and what the site has to do at each step. For m|devices that meant translating a clinical B2B brand into user journeys everyday consumers would trust. The output is a scope you can hold us to.
- **Design that survives contact with your brand.** Our designers work from your identity, not a template, and we collaborate cleanly where a brand agency is already in the picture — on Revolve Partners we built hand-in-hand with their creative team at Marilyn & Sons.
- **The build itself, on a platform chosen for you.** Custom WordPress with WooCommerce for sites that need editorial and commerce together; Shopify where the catalogue and operations fit it better. We recommend after discovery, and we tell you why.
- **Ecommerce plumbing done properly.** Product architecture, variants, checkout, payments, shipping rules and email flows configured, then tested with real orders before anything goes live.
- **Search visibility from the first commit.** Site architecture, page speed, structured data and clean URLs are decisions made during the build, so the site is ready for an SEO programme rather than a rebuild away from one.
- **Measurement wired in on launch day.** GA4, Google Tag Manager and conversion tracking configured and QA'd before go-live. You'll know what the site returns from its first week.
- **A handover you can actually use.** Training for your team, documentation, and an admin set up so publishing a product or a page doesn't need a developer.

## How we do it

1. **Discovery and scoping.** Stakeholder sessions, a read of your existing analytics and Search Console data, and a teardown of the competitors your buyers compare you against. You get a written scope with fixed deliverables, and the quote reflects it.
2. **Architecture and design.** Sitemap and wireframes first, then full designs in Figma. Every template is signed off by you before a line of build starts. Where user journeys matter to revenue, we prototype and test them.
3. **Build on staging.** Our developers build on a private staging site you can click through from week one. WordPress/WooCommerce or Shopify, with custom code where it earns its keep and none of the page-builder bloat that drags load times down.
4. **Populate, test, track.** Content and products loaded, then cross-device and browser testing, Core Web Vitals tuning, and a full tracking QA: every form, checkout step and event verified in GA4 before anyone calls it done.
5. **Launch and prove it.** Redirect mapping so you keep any existing rankings, Search Console verification, and monitoring through the first weeks. Then a post-launch review against the scope from step one: what we promised, what shipped, what the data shows.

## Case study: m|devices

m|devices, an Australian medical device manufacturer, had spent years selling only to healthcare professionals. To grow beyond B2B they needed a direct-to-consumer platform. After a previous agency burned months and budget with nothing to show for it, they also needed a partner they could verify. We led strategy, design and project management, working in lockstep with their internal developers, and delivered a consumer experience that doubled the brand's digital capability while keeping its clinical authority intact.

> "Gudu is more like a part of my team, than an external agency — my KPIs are their focus. They deliver results and are an absolute delight to work with." — Rebbecca Stewart, Marketing Manager, m|devices

## FAQ

**How much does a website cost in Australia?**

Honestly: anywhere from a few thousand dollars for a templated brochure site to well into six figures for complex ecommerce. A custom-designed business or ecommerce site from an Australian agency typically lands in the tens of thousands, driven by page count, integrations and how much of the thinking you need done. We quote after discovery, against a written scope, so you're paying for defined work rather than a guess.

**What does a web development agency do?**

Everything between "we need a website" and a site that's live and earning: research and user journeys, design, the build itself, content migration, testing, tracking setup and launch. A good one also tells you what not to build. The test of an agency is whether they show you their process before you sign — ours is the five steps above, and we hold ourselves to it in the post-launch review.

**Webflow or WordPress for a business site?**

WordPress, for most Australian businesses. It's what your next hire will already know, it owns the plugin ecosystem, and WooCommerce makes the move into ecommerce straightforward. Webflow produces clean sites and suits design-led marketing pages, but you'll pay for the platform forever and hiring for it is harder. We build custom WordPress (Revolve Partners runs on it), and we'll say plainly if your case is the exception.

**Shopify or WooCommerce for ecommerce?**

Shopify when the store is the business: it handles hosting, checkout and PCI compliance for you, and its admin is the easiest for a small team to run. WooCommerce when commerce sits inside a bigger content play, when you need custom logic Shopify's ecosystem fights you on, or when you want to own the stack outright. We build both. The discovery phase settles it, with your catalogue and margins in front of us rather than a house preference.

**How long does a website build take?**

A focused business site: eight to twelve weeks from kick-off to launch. Ecommerce or heavy integrations push that to three to six months. The variable that blows out timelines is rarely development. It's content and decisions, so we schedule your approvals into the plan from day one and flag the moment anything drifts. You'll see the staging site from the first weeks, so progress is visible rather than reported.

**How do I judge a web development agency before hiring one?**

Ask to see a launched site and the people who built it, then ask three things: who does the work day to day, what happens when the project ends, and how they'll prove the site performs. If the answers are a sales lead, a hosting invoice and silence, keep looking. We'll walk you through m|devices and Revolve Partners, and the reporting we wired into each.
